This week, I did my usual classes, taekwondo, violin, swimming, and orchestra. But this week in taekwondo, I took a test and got my black belt!!!!! Yayyyy! Other than that, I learned about sorting algorithms and made a Scratch project out of it! Video coming soon!

Mink’s Group:

The final day of weeklies for the Herons was full of celebration, initiation, and fun! Together we hiked out to Best Peninsula, making sure to blindfold the two eldest members of our group—who are graduating out—before embarking. We traded off guiding our non-sighted members carefully through the forest until we arrive at the peninsula.

Here, we played a fun game of mushroom ball! Blindfolded folks had the opportunity to play this game with or without eyesight! Afterward, some of us explored the sunny side of the peninsula, while another team started mixing together the ingredients for our culminating project: acorn pancakes! This was great fun and there were a few near misses, do to the fact that one of our chef extraordinaires was mixing things blindfolded!

Once it was time to start cooking, Mink guided the two graduating students out for blindfolded solo-sits on a well protected area we call “fairy island”. Here, they were asked to reflect on ways they have been challenged and grown this year and throughout their time at SE. They were reminded that the next great life stage (adolescence!) can feel disorienting sometimes, like stumbling around in the dark! It will be important for them to draw on their strength, resilience, and inner guidance as things change.

The rest of us cooked pancakes and made an amazing berry compote over a Coleman stove, and even got to watch the emerging on a dragonfly from its previous exoskeleton!

Finally we brought our blindfolded friends back and allowed them to see the feast, as we all celebrated and enjoyed the fruits of our labour. Everyone had a chance to sit and reflect on the ways we’ve each grown before our sweet closing circle, where beautiful words were shared by students and parents alike. Thanks for an amazing year everyone!
