We had a surprisingly busy Saturday with people coming over. Our original plan was to have dim sum with my parents, but they had to bail. This worked out perfectly as Ethan got to spend time with his homeschool buddy, Kenson and play with a younger kid, too.
This morning, we headed to Costco and after we came home, I had a client come over for a quick meeting. He brought his 4-year-old daughter and Ethan had a nice time playing with her. He took the initiative to play with her because she was a bit shy. By the time she left, she had opened up and was chatting away with Ethan. We were quite proud of him for being so good with a little kid.
Then Kenson came over and the two boys had a great time. First, it was chess.
Then we took advantage of a break in the rain and got the boys outside.
When they got home, the two of them worked on a comic book together. Ethan did the writing and Kenson did the illustrations for Adventures of a Toilet Book 1. This was great because Kenson is two years younger than Ethan, so it was probably a good experience for him to create something with Ethan.
After the comic book, they played “Would you rather…?” using questions in Ethan’s Kindle.
Ethan then showed Kenson how to scan and upload their comic book to Ethan’s blog.
After Kenson went home, Ethan started doing some more coding to make more games.
And did something nice when he was helping set the table for dinner.
He also helped juice the limes for lime water.
After dinner, he completed a couple of games in Scratch, like this block busting game.
We wanted to play something as a family, so we pulled out the board games and had a fun time playing a few different games together.
And had some homemade banana bread for a snack.
So even on the weekends, the learning continues. And that’s the way we think it should be and one of the great things we love about being a home learner and unschooling.
I will not be making comments on this particular submission: I will instead be working on the Winter Connections this week. I have read the learning activities in this week’s Observing for Learning and collected Highlights of Learning. Thank you so much for all that you share and contribute.
