An international team of astronomers using TESS (the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite) and the retired Spitzer space telescope, found an object orbiting a white dwarf. A white dwarf is an object that is created very violently, with something called a “Nova,” a bang caused by a dying main sequence star (Creating a very beautiful nebula in the proses:)

This is the crab nebula. search up “nebula” and go to images to see more amazing nebulas.

So it is very unlikely that a planet can be found orbiting a white dwarf. But it could have survived the nova if it was farther away! the gravity of a white dwarf might be enough to pull it in! the planet is so close, that it only takes about 34 hours to orbit its star! its about 7x the size of the white dwarf it orbits. the white dwarf is called (Get ready…) “WD 1856+534”. the planet is called “WD 1856 B”. also, if a planet normally gets that close to a white dwarf, it gets torn apart, due to tidal forces. in conclusion, WD 1856 B may have a lot to tell us! Cool!
