Almost the last week of summer! It’s the last week before Ethan starts SelfDesign for 2019/20 and he’s pretty excited about being a sixth-grader. Here’s what happened this week.
August 18

Sunday morning violin practice. He’s been practicing all summer.
He made this flexahedron.
With the remaining money Ethan earned from selling stuff at the yard sale yesterday, we had lunch at Wooden Fish.
We played some board games before heading out to the park for some fresh air.
Back home, we spent the evening playing Scrabble. He beat me again before I finally won a game.

August 21

Finding piano music to accompany his violin.
He then went to work on a scale of the universe drawing.

“My window” and beyond.

August 22

After taking swimming lessons all summer, he successfully passed Swim Kids 8! We think the jogging and swimming upped his endurance so he could get through the lessons more easily.
August 23

We went to the library. He’s actually been here a few times this week. He’s been into coding again.
After dinner, he made popcorn and we watched Brain Games on Netflix. We then read some of Mr. Lemoncello’s Library before Ethan went to bed.
August 24

Ethan woke up early and went jogging. After he got back, he was hungry so he made breakfast for him and I.

We went to Stanley Park on Wednesday night to watch Jurassic Park outside. Afterwards, Ethan was interested in dinosaurs and what was science versus science fiction in the movie. He also wanted to read some of the other Jurassic Park stories.
He loved the Philosophy Files so we ordered the books for him and they arrived today.
He practiced Bourrée together with a piano accompaniment.

We went out and did some shopping. After we got home, Ethan wanted to make a video so he started working on slides for it. We spent the rest of the evening watching Brain Games on Netflix.
As mentioned, SelfDesign starts this upcoming week so we’ll probably be posting more about what Ethan’s doing in relation to that. It was a fantastic summer and now, we’re looking forward to another year of unschooling.
