A good start to the week with Father’s Day, then a nice wrap up with our building’s first ever garage sale. Ethan sold lemonade and chocolate chip cookies so he was super-excited about the garage sale. Here’s how it all went this week…
June 17
Father’s Day. Got a nice little origami card from Ethan to start the day.
We went jogging together in our new runners.
We then went to my parents’ place to collect additional things for the garage sale.
We spent some time at my parents’ but came home later that afternoon. Ethan made this origami plane. No, it doesn’t fly.

He completed a worksheet about how whales need to be saved.
Ethan then worked on some problems.
He answered comprehension questions and did well with using complete sentences.
June 18
Started the day checking what his step goals would be. The fitness tracker has been a good way to help Ethan remember to move.
Some morning violin practice.
Took a dip in the pool.
Did some repairs on Tutu.
To get ready for the garage sale, Ethan and Dong Eun practiced making different chocolate chip cookie recipes.
Ethan did some 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication practice.
More violin practice. He’s really into violin lately and shows good determination to learn the songs.
Did some journal writing.
Answered questions about electronic waste from Classroom Ready Science News.
Worked on a four quadrant graphing puzzle. He likes challenging himself with different types of math problems.
Read “Iqbal and His Ingenious Idea” and wrote a summary of the book.
Loves the “what if?” book and spent time reading it again.
We finished the day by reading “The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood.”
June 19
Ethan prepared his own breakfast today.
Later, he wanted a grilled cheese sandwich and made it himself.
Spent some time practicing violin.
Dong Eun was given a book called “Working with the Law,” by Raymond Holliwell and Ethan noticed a quote from the bible about how the earth was created by God. So Ethan decided to add a correction…
More violin practice.
Getting in some tennis practice.
We read Robin Hood before bedtime again. I record what I read so that Ethan can listen to it afterwards. Actually, we did this quite a lot when Ethan was younger so that he could listen to the book we’ve read together.
June 20
Morning violin practice.
Practicing proportions with a sixth-grade worksheet. It’s nice having time to explore different math topics.
Writing about why it’s important to take care of ourselves.
Working on more proportions problems.
Did some coding in Scratch.
Read about coding in Python and told me about different types of applications.
We had to go down to our storage locker to find things for the garage sale. Ethan came down to help and take a selfie.
It was a beautiful, warm night so we went out for a walk along the seawall.

June 21
Last day of swimming lessons and Ethan found out he had earned his Level 6 badge.
We went to the library to hang out afterwards. Ethan likes reading comics, like Calvin and Hobbes, while we’re there.
We headed to Hollyburn Elementary to check out the year end festival. They had a jellybean guessing contest.
Getting ready to sell lemonade and cookies on Saturday, so Ethan made a lemonade sign.
June 22
Started the day reading about how things work.
Practiced violin.
Learned about and practiced linear equations and functions.
Learned about slope.
Did a summary of Roald Dahl’s “The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me.”
And also did a summary report about “Esio Trot.”
Wrote a story about math.
Helped with our grocery delivery.
Helped with making another batch of chocolate chip cookies.
Made the price and ingredients signs for the sale tomorrow.
Spent some time reading a science encyclopedia.
June 23
Garage sale day! We got our cookies ready and made the lemonade.
Then it was time to set up shop on the grass outside our building. Our neighbours had their stuff out and there were already people coming by.
Kal came over to help sell cookies and lemonade, too. All proceeds from selling our stuff would be going to the BC SPCA.
The garage sale was a lot of fun and we hope to have another one.
Ethan got very good at greeting people and talking to them as he sold his cookies and lemonade.
Ethan counted up the money afterwards.
We then played some tennis since it was such a nice day out.
And we got our own copy of “The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood.” We love reading this book so it’s great to have our own copy so we don’t have to borrow it from the library.
Before bed, Ethan helped clean the glass on the balcony doors.
It was an eventful week for Ethan with Father’s Day to start and ending with a new experience selling lemonade and cookies.
On top of that, Ethan worked on several math topics and practiced his writing skills, too. He also got a new badge in swimming so overall, it was a fun and full week.
