Like last week, this week was spring break, so I didn’t do that much studying. I had my violin classes (Mondays and Tuesdays) and swimming classes (Mondays and Fridays).

LC Response

Ethan I see you chose a connected list of I Can Statements this fall. I see them consistently in your learning across disciplines throughout the years. You truly allow your curiosity to guide your learning. You know how to ask complex questions, research answers, experiment with ideas and skills, practice, make mistakes and learn from them. Your ease at which you make mistakes is one of your biggest gifts! As the quote summarizes, this ease with mistakes allows you to be open and creative. Once you find the answers or techniques which work for you, you are able to reshare them via a video, a simulation or a blog entry in super engaging and creative ways! You are a deep learner Ethan. This process you are practicing over and over again is powerful and I encourage you to keep working with it for years to come.

I know I can try new things that are challenging for me because I started learning calculus this year! I also started learning a new coding language, C#. I started learning Big History, and also learned about electric fields! I also started writing articles about things that I know (usually space) by researching about the topic (mostly from NASA or Wikipedia), and lots of related topics!

Teaching yourself Calculus is pretty incredible, not to mention all of the coding languages you are working with this year.

I am so happy I will be able to follow your learning and life through your Youtube channel and blog postings. I am so curious and excited for your learning journey!!

You did an excellent job, reflecting on your goals and how you are meeting them this year. Have you thought much about your thinking in general?

It may interest you to do some metacognition or “think about your thinking”

There are several kinds of thinking, here is an article which explains a bit more of what I am talking about.

I also want to get better at learning subjects I’m not as interested in, such as geography or language arts. I think I just have to find a fun way to learn these subjects, like I did with history, because big history is very fun! Big history is the study of how the universe formed.

That is right, just find your passions and explore them in different disciplines. You did a tremendous amount of research and writing this year. Your language arts skills progressed a lot.

You have lots of time and life ahead. I am sure you will find interesting ways to engage with history and current events. You are very self aware that these are areas of growth for you. I am so confident that you will work with this goal and have a lot of successes.

Fall I Can Statement and next steps

Hello Ethan!!

Here are the I Can Statements you selected and wrote about this fall:

Please take some time to reflect on and consider how you have grown in this and share your thoughts in the text box below. You are welcome to use the template I suggested or write it in a format you prefer. You can add pictures too, very open ended..

Please write about next steps and goals you have too, you can pick a few new I Can Statements that you see yourself working on and tell me a bit about them too.

Here is my example: I know I can because …My next learning goal is:I can get better at …
i know I can express my ideas in a variety of ways because I can teach people on the blackboard, or make a video, or just talk about it with my friends! I can also make a simulation about math or science concepts, usually using either Scratch or Algodoo. I can also write an article about it. I know I can stay curious when learning new things that challenge my thinking because I can find related topics and learn about those as well, or I can make a coding project, or write an article about it.I can get better at coding, because sometimes I get stuck on something, or have to look it up. For example, I had to look up the formula to make something bounce off a wall for my pong game. I also had to figure out (mathematically) how to make an object point toward a specific (x, y) location. I also want to get better at learning subjects I’m not as interested in, such as geography or language arts. I think I just have to find a fun way to learn these subjects, like I did with history, because big history is very fun! Big history is the study of how the universe formed.
