What happened this week on Ethan’s learning journey as an unschooler? LOTS, as usual.

Practicing a new song today.
The Star Wars theme song!
Ethan worked on some scientific notation.

Later in the day, he watched this video about phosphorus to learn what it’s used for. He was making an element card for phosphorus so that’s why he’s learning about it.

One of my best friends came over for lunch and brought some flowers.

Ethan’s origami hanging from the ceiling.

Ethan’s fern has grown a lot!
He wrote about the 100-year-old war.
He made some sentences from words had to add a prefix to.
He made two element cards today: silicon and phosphorus.

Today was nature school day. His friend Luca’s mom drove them today and last time, she bought the kids ice cream.
Today, Ethan wanted to treat them back so he brought $20 of his own money that he earned from helping our neighbour so he could buy Luca and his mom ice cream.

Today was a physically demanding day. We went for a jog, though someone went reluctantly, then took the bike and scooter to the community centre for Ethan’s swimming lesson. Ethan had his swimming lesson, then we rode back home. Later, we again took the bike and scooter to the community centre where Ethan had taekwondo class. He played with a friend after class and then we rode home. Definitely enough exercise today.

Someone wasn’t really into jogging this morning but he got it done.
We took the bike and scooter to the community centre for Ethan’s swimming lesson. It was the community centre’s 10th anniversary so they were giving away cupcakes. Ethan worked hard in his swimming lesson, most likely because of the cupcakes.
After swimming, we went to the library and then rode back home.
The origami we hung up.
All the different origami hearts Ethan’s made lately.
We borrowed some new DVDs and Ethan borrowed some new books…mostly about origami.
Whenever we go for a jog, we always look for sea glass. The vase is filling up little-by-little, day-by-day.
Ethan made this pattern today.
He also made a pig.
This is a birthday card he made for his auntie.

Healthy breakfast to start the day.
Here’s what the origami hung up looks like so far.
Ethan and Dong Eun came back from their walk with this flower.

Saturday morning, Dong Eun went with Ethan to the community centre.

He always brings along something to do in his bag. Today he brought paper to make airplanes and play with his symphony classmate.
He tied up his own skates today because I wasn’t there.

More origami hung up.
We went for a walk. As usual, Ethan had fun playing with daisies as we walked.
He brings origami paper with him everywhere! Here he is folding something while in the department store.
He also folded this design, which opens and closes and transforms, too.

He then made a fish flicker toy. Can you see it in the air?
We got a grocery delivery and it came with packs of dry ice. Ethan was excited and immediately put some of the ice in water. He also made a video about it.
And that was Ethan’s week of unschooling. There was a little less of the academic activities this week but that’s one of the advantages of unschooling, the flexibility to go with what’s happening in the moment, even if last for a whole week.
