This week, I did the unit 2 unit test! I got 95.23% on it, and so I’m happy with that. I had to go in to take the test π I also worked on a lot of Currents4Kids and News4Youth. All is below! And to top it all off, I did some science learning guide and math unit 3.
I also had chess club on the weekend. Three people came (including me) and it was great. We played three games, in which I played two. I won one and lost one.

The test was fascinating because I had to go to a school and do the test in person. It was really fun, but I was pretty nervous because it was my first time doing that sort of thing.

This one was about the βnewβ Mars rover on Mars, called Perseverance.

This one was about a material made of mycelium and how it’s renewable.

This one is about a new story written by J.K. Rowling, the same author who wrote Harry Potter.

Hi Ethan,
Congratulations on writing your first formal test for school! Going to a special location and following the formal procedures is quite an experience; I’m glad you found it fascinating despite your nerves. It sounds like you handled it well and were able to retain your memory of the material and ability to clearly communicate while in that situation, which is wonderful! There’s a Test Taking topic in the Learning Experience Library that has some good content you might find useful if you’re planning to write a variety of tests and exams either this year or in future years. If you take courses at college or university it’s very common for several classes to write their final exams in the gymnasium all at once; hundreds of people all writing in silence together for three hours is a somewhat surreal experience, but if you found this test-taking experience fascinating I think you’d find that fascinating too.
Congratulations also on becoming a leader in taekwondo! You look very accomplished in your blue uniform. I look forward to hearing how you find volunteering in taekwondo and think you’ll enjoy helping the kids learn.
I’m glad to hear your chess club is going well! It must be quite different from the book club you’d originally imagined though. Do you think next year you’d want to try for a book club, or a chess club, or something new (or more than one!)?
Your research and writing about stars is turning into quite a project! I’d be interested to hear more about your process for it sometime. After choosing a topic for a section (e.g. white dwarf) how do you go about crafting a summary of what you learn?
Thank you for your Observing for Learning.
Best,
Shannon
